Research Assistant - Marine Turtle Nesting Beach Monitoring and Conservation Project
We are looking for a Research Assistant (RA) to join our Marine Turtle Nesting Beach Monitoring and Conservation Project to conduct scientific research, participate in community engagement, and monitor marine turtle nesting beaches in the province of Palawan and in particular in the Municipality of San Vicente.
The position is ideal for someone flexible, adaptable to project needs and fit to do extensive physical work in the field. The RA will also assist in the various scientific, community, and educational activities that LAMAVE is involved with (i.e. exploration of new sites, training of new communities, stranding response etc). This position requires excellent observational, communication and active listening skills, and a keen interest in marine conservation.

Length of Position: February 01, 2025 - May 30, 2025, with the possibility to extend

Research Assistant - Whale Shark Research and Conservation Project
LAMAVE is looking for a Research Assistant (RA) to join our Whale Shark Research and Conservation Project to carry out field research on whale shark ecology including assessing population dynamics, seasonal distribution and habitat use; monitor whale shark tourism compliance; and collaborate with the local stakeholders for the sustainable management of the whale shark tourism operations in the province of Palawan and Southern Leyte.
This position is ideal for someone who has a background in marine science and community organization and is interested in gaining experience in whale shark conservation and scientific research, fieldwork management, and establishing community ties for conservation work. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wishes to further develop their career in marine conservation working in the non-profit sector, and experience working in a small, close-knit team.
This position requires you to be physically fit, with strong swimming skills and the ability to freedive to at least 7 m.

Technical Field Research Assistant - Global FinPrint Project
We are seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Technical Field Research Assistants for our Global FinPrint Project, a comprehensive international effort aimed at assessing the status of reef shark and ray populations across the world's oceans. As a Technical Field Research Assistant, you will be part of a dynamic team working to study the shark and ray populations of Sablayan, Mindoro through BRUVS deployment. This role involves employing innovative scientific techniques and technologies for elasmobranch research and data collection. You will participate in field work deploying and retrieving BRUVS and data cleaning and analysis - such as reviewing and annotating the video footage.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wishes to further develop their career in marine conservation working in the non-profit sector, and experience working in a small, close-knit team.
This position requires you to be physically fit - a strong swimmer and capable to carry and hand haul/reel in 15kg (for BRUSVS deployment & retrival) for prolonged periods at a time.
